Dear Prabhujis-I have been listening to this controversy around the edited books, and I would like to make a suggestion/statement. If I had an employee that cost my business one million dollars through a lawsuit that I didn’t win I would fire that employee. Pure and Simple. His Holiness JaiAdvaita Swami Maharaj should be “put out to pasture” and preach the glories of Lord Caitanya throughout the world. That is his job as a Sanyasi. He is now old like the rest of us, and sufficiently realized in his Krishna Consciousness to have a profound preaching result. His work as Editor of Srila Prabhupada’s books has now come to an end, and it will cost millions more to reverse this mess. Send him on the road and a senior devotee. Hari Bol!

Govinda Dasi This is the most important thing we can do: Rescue Srila Prabhupada’s original books from the unending editing that has been going on since his departure from this world. If this is not done, the world may eventually lose his original message as things are changed little by little over many years’ time.

Aside from this danger, it is both unethical and immoral from a scholarly and spiritual point of view, to tamper with the Acharya’s original writings. It has never been an accepted practice in any sampradaya, and can only lead to confusion.

And it is Vaishnava aparadha: It demeans the Acharya. By thinking we can “improve” on his teachings with our limited understanding, and our perspectives as conditioned souls subject to the defects of error and illusion, we are committing offense.

Srila Prabhupada once said that as soon as the disciple begins to speak of the Acharya as a “man” that is offense, for he has lost his spiritual understanding, and this is the beginning of falldown. This has happened in our Iskcon since Srila Prabhupada’s departure, and is at the very root of all the ills of our modern Iskcon society. It is like root-rot in a plant, it starts below the ground, and as it progresses all the leaves and flowers die and fall off the plant. Unless it is checked, it will destroy the entire plant. Such is the situation.

To correct this rotten mentality, we simply must return to Srila Prabhupada’s original books, original teachings and original mood. Everyone was so happy in the Early Days of Iskcon; it’s time to return to that spiritual world that Srila Prabhupada shared so freely with us. And stop thinking we can do it all better, write his books better, and second guess his teachings. Everyone can share in that bliss of the Early Day Iskcon; it’s there in Prabhupada’s original books!
